Hi guys,
Well, I know it seemed like I dropped off the face of the earth there for a while...and it felt that way too! I was on a true rollercoaster at work, first with being given tons of overtime and being told I was a valuable member of the OTB team, and then finally, out of the blue, being "let go" over the weekend due to a complaint from a customer that I asked out on a date (I know, not a wise thing to do). I thought I was doing something good for myself, getting up the courage to ask this girl out, rather than continuing on the internet route, and what did I get for my efforts...fired! I should've known.
The silver lining on all of this is that I had an interview yesterday over at Cracker Barrel, and I'm guessing I will soon be hired. It went VERY well. The manager was very impressed with my resume, especially when I told him I ran a Robert Cray website...he too was a fan! Now THAT's the type of guy I would like to work with. I am hopeful. I told him all about the OTB firing so there wouldn't be any surprises when he called them for a reference, and he seemed OK with it, as long as I don't do anything like that at CB. He seemed most interested in whether or not I had a police record--which I don't. So that's a good thing. With the economy tough right now, I can't afford to be out of work for very long, though I did make a bundle in overtime at On The Border before that fell apart for me.
I also am going to try and get things moving again on my Robert Cray message board, I'm sorry to everyone here who counts on me, and who I have let down. Hopefully there will be lots of news soon about Carrot Top that we can discuss. I better get over to Facebook next and see what's happening there.
JA
(BTW, I decided to put this post in the "Suicide Chat" category, but don't worry, things haven't gotten THAT grim!)

James Amos, good luck with Cracker Barrel - I hope you get it. Why on earth did that woman you asked out complain to the manager? I suspect you have some difficulty "reading" women. Was she really friendly and flirty before you asked her out? If so, I wonder what her problem was. Is it possible that she is an associate of Nan or possibly even Manuel?

GREAT news!!!! I got the Cracker Barrel job. I start tomorrow. It even pays a little bit more (well, 15 cents an hour more, to be exact) than On The Border did. About 10 more minutes of driving though each day. This is really exciting to me. I was sort of getting prepared for a long job hunt, like I had before the OTB job. And then I get the first job I apply for! Very cool. Kurt, I don't know why that woman complained. She was sort of a secretary type, it was Friday night, and she was drinking at the bar with some co-workers, and then having dinner afterwards. I felt we hit it off when I was serving her all night long. There just seemed to be some chemistry there. She seemed sort of giggly and fun, I don't know what came over me, but after I saw that she had left me a nice tip, I sort of chased her out to the parking lot and told her I thought she was really beautiful and kind, and asked for her phone number, and asked if I could call her sometime. She just said "No thanks, no, no." and left. So I thought "no big deal", but was proud of myself for summoning up the courage to at least try. Then Sunday afternoon my OTB manager calls me at home to say not to bother coming in for my shift, and that I was being let go, for what he called "stalking" a customer (I was not stalking!), as well as for leaving the premeses of the building during my shift (since I went out to the parking lot). I guess this woman called my manager and complained. A real slap in the face. I am going to put it all behind me. No, I don't think she knew Nan...too classy! And Manuel, forget about that jerk. Last I heard he is in trouble with the law. I don't think this woman would have anything to do with a guy like that. Anyway, if any of you guys are planning to visit the Atlanta area any time soon, get in touch, I would love to serve you at the Barrel!!! JA

Gay4Screech, You know, I heard Manuel was arrested for selling drugs. I don't know any of the details, or if it is even true. He was not my friend. JA
